Editor Keyboard Shortcuts (Windows)

Use these keyboard shortcuts to work faster in the article editor on Windows. The shortcuts are available when the cursor is inside the editor.

Navigation

 

Shortcut

Description

Home

Moves the cursor to the beginning of the line.

Ctrl+Home

Moves the cursor to the beginning of the document.

End

Moves the cursor to the end of the line.

Ctrl+End

Moves the cursor to the end of the document.

Page Down

Scrolls down the document, approximately by the length of the editing area.

Page Up

Scrolls up the document, approximately by the length of the editing area.

Writing

 

Shortcut

Description

Enter

Ends the current paragraph and starts a new one.

Shift+Enter

Inserts a line break.

Backspace, Delete

Deletes a character.

Ctrl+Backspace, Ctrl+Delete

Deletes a word.

Undo and Redo

 

Shortcut

Description

Ctrl+Z

Undoes the last action.

Ctrl+Y, Shift+Ctrl+Z

Redoes the last action.

Cut, Copy, and Paste

 

Shortcut

Description

Ctrl+X, Shift+Delete

Cuts the selected text to the clipboard.

Ctrl+C

Copies the selected text to the clipboard.

Ctrl+V, Shift+Insert

Pastes text from the clipboard.

Shift+Ctrl+V

Pastes clipboard content as plain text.

Text Selection

 

Shortcut

Description

Ctrl+A

Selects all content in the document.

Shift+Arrow

Selects text one character at a time.

Ctrl+Shift+Arrow

Selects text one word at a time.

Shift+Home

Selects text from the cursor to the beginning of the line.

Shift+End

Selects text from the cursor to the end of the line.

Ctrl+Shift+Home

Selects text from the cursor to the beginning of the document.

Ctrl+Shift+End

Selects text from the cursor to the end of the document.

Shift+Page Down

Selects text approximately the length of the editing area, starting from the cursor and moving down.

Shift+Page Up

Selects text approximately the length of the editing area, starting from the cursor and moving up.

Widget Selection

 

Shortcut

Description

Enter

Opens the widget dialog box.

Shift+Enter

Adds an empty paragraph after the selected widget.

Shift+Alt+Enter

Adds an empty paragraph before the selected widget.

Left Arrow, Right Arrow

Moves the selection before or after the widget.

Text Styling

 

Shortcut

Description

Ctrl+B

Applies bold formatting to the selected text.

Ctrl+I

Applies italic formatting to the selected text.

Ctrl+U

Applies underline formatting to the selected text.

Copy Formatting

 

Shortcut

Description

Ctrl+Shift+C

Copies inline formatting from the selected text and turns on sticky mode.

Esc

Turns off sticky mode.

Rich Text

 

Shortcut

Description

Ctrl+L, Ctrl+K

Opens the Link dialog box.

Tab

Indents a list item.

Shift+Tab

Outdents a list item.

Macros

 

Shortcut

Description

Ctrl+M

Opens the macro dialog box to insert a macro.

Accessibility

 

Shortcut

Description

Alt+F10

Moves focus to the toolbar or the tab list of the open dialog box.

Tab

Moves to the next toolbar button group, context menu suboption, elements path element, dialog box element, or dialog box tab in the tab list.

Right Arrow

Moves to the next toolbar button in the group, context menu suboption, elements path element, dialog box element, or dialog box tab in the tab list.

Tab, Down Arrow

Moves to the next drop-down list or context menu option.

Shift+Tab

Moves to the previous toolbar button group, context menu parent option, elements path element, dialog box element, or dialog box tab in the tab list.

Left Arrow

Moves to the previous toolbar button in the group, context menu parent option, elements path element, dialog box element, or dialog box tab in the tab list.

Shift+Tab, Up Arrow

Moves to the previous drop-down list or context menu option.

Space, Enter

Activates the selected toolbar button, context menu option, drop-down list option, elements path element, or dialog box tab. Also opens a context menu submenu, if available.
