Using Charts
Creating Charts
To create a new chart:

Add a charts gadget to your home page.

The menu on the left opens to the Open Report option by default.

Under the Open Report dropdown, select the Click to open a report option and navigate to the report you want to use for the chart.

Click the Parameters Options button to set report parameters if they have not already been saved.

Click the Chart Configuration button to select your charting options. The choice of chart types is available in a drop-down menu. The other options that are available depend on the chart type selected.

Click the ‘handle’ in the left edge of the gadget to minimize the menu pane.

Click the Save button to save the chart.
Adding Existing Charts
If you make any changes to the chart (e.g. parameters, charting options) and save it under the same name, this change takes effect in every dashboard that includes the chart.
To re-use an existing chart:

Add a charts gadget to your home page.

Under the Open Report dropdown, select the Click to open a report option and navigate to the report you want to use for the chart.

If the selected report already has saved charts from other dashboards, they are listed in the menu pane. Click one to select it.

Click the ‘handle’ in the left edge of the gadget to minimize the menu pane.
To use an existing chart as the starting point for a new chart:

Add a charts gadget to your home page.

The menu on the left opens to the Open Report option by default.

Under the Open Report dropdown, select the Click to open a report option and navigate to the report you want to use for the chart.

If the selected report already has saved charts, they are listed in the menu pane. Click one to select it.

Click the Chart Configuration button to select your charting options. The choice of chart types is available in a drop-down menu. The other options that are available depend on the chart type selected.

Click the ‘handle’ in the left edge of the gadget to minimize the menu pane.

Click the Save button to save the chart, but type in a new name and click Save As.
Working With Charts
To edit a chart:
- In the charts gadget, click the Parameters button to open the menu pane on the left and change the report parameters.
- Click the Charts button to change your charting options (such as the chart type).
- Click the Thresholds button to add or change the report thresholds.
- Click the ‘handle’ in the left edge of the gadget to minimize the menu pane.
- Click a legend color to change it. You can click the Legends button to show the legend if it is currently hidden).
- Click the Save button to save the chart. If you change the chart name, you can decide whether to rename the existing chart or click Save As to save the new options as a new chart.
If you make any changes to the charting options or legend colors and save the chart, these changes take effect in every instance of the chart across all dashboards. If you use the Save As option, then the original options and colors are preserved in the original chart. If you make any changes to the report parameters or thresholds and save or save as, these changes take effect in the report itself and every chart that is based on it.
To view the data underneath the chart:
- In the charts gadget, click the Charts button to open the menu pane on the left.
- If the Open Chart section is in focus, click the Open Report section to put it in focus. This reveals the following buttons below the chart name: View, Edit and Replace.
- Click the View button to navigate to the report which powers the chart. You can review the full data in the report. This navigates you away from the dashboard.
To edit the details of the underlying report:
- In the charts gadget, click the Charts button in the menu pane on the left.
- If the Open Chart section is in focus, click the Open Report section to put it in focus. This reveals the following buttons below the chart name: View, Edit and Replace.
- Click the Edit button to navigate to the properties of the report which powers the chart. Please note that this action navigates you away from the dashboard. You can then make changes such as renaming the report, or go to the Report Builder to add or remove report columns.
- Click the ‘handle’ in the left edge of the gadget to minimize the menu pane.
To substitute one report for another in the gadget:
- In the charts gadget, click Charts button in the menu pane on the left.
- If the Open Chart section is in focus, click the Open Report section to put it in focus. This reveals the following buttons below the chart name: View, Edit and Replace.
- Click the Replace button (or the report name itself) and navigate to the alternative report you want to use instead.
- If the selected report already has saved charts from other dashboards, they are listed in the menu pane. Click one to select it.
- Alternatively, click the Charts button to select your charting options and create a new chart.
- Click the ‘handle’ in the left edge of the gadget to minimize the menu pane.
- If you created a new chart, click the Save button to save it.
To substitute one chart for another in the gadget:
- In the charts gadget, click the Chart Charts button in the menu pane on the left.
- If the selected report already has saved charts besides the one that is currently being displayed, then they are listed in the Open Chart section of the menu pane. Click one to select it.
- Click the ‘handle’ in the left edge of the gadget to minimize the menu pane.
Deleting Charts
To delete a chart:
- In the charts gadget, click Charts button in the menu pane on the left.
- If the selected report has saved charts, they are listed in the Open Chart section of the menu pane.
- Click the delete button next to a chart to delete it. Click the Delete button to confirm the deletion.
- If a chart is used in multiple dashboards and is deleted, then every instance of the chart is deleted across all dashboards. Every instance of the chart is replaced by the underlying grid report.
