Creating a Linked Report

It is possible to create linked reports, which are links to a given report in a different location or under a different name. A linked report shares the same definition (and model, if applicable) as its parent report, but the parameters, thresholds and schedules can be set and saved independently for the linked report. This makes it easy to use a standard report format across the business but allow different users to have their own instances of the report.

The linked report will appear as a separate report distinguished by an arrow icon  next to the name. In most regards it can be managed independently of the parent report. However, a linked report cannot be rebuilt. For example, you cannot add or remove columns or change the styling. These changes would update the report definition and must be made to the parent report if you have permission to do so.

Advanced Mode users can choose the folder location in which to save a Linked report. Standard Mode users can save a linked report into their Home Folder.

If a parent report is deleted, any linked reports for that parent report will be deleted automatically.

To create a linked report:
  1. Perform one of the following:

    • If you are an Advanced Mode user, open the Tools Menu Tools menu, select Reporting > Reports, and navigate to the folder containing the report.

    • If you are a Standard Mode user, go to your Home Page and expand the heading for the folder containing the report.

  2. In the list, , find the report you want to create a link for and click on its name. The report opens.

  3. In the Report Toolbar, click Create Link.

If the parent report has saved parameters or thresholds defined then these will be inherited by the Linked Report. Once the Linked Report is saved, its parameters and thresholds can be modified without  affecting the parent report and vice versa.

  4. You will be prompted to enter the details for linked report:

    • Name (must be unique within the folder that contains the linked report)

    • Sub title

    • Description

    • Folder (Advanced Mode users only) – select a folder from the tree in which to save the linked report. If you are a Standard Mode user, the tree is not visible and the linked report will be saved in your Home Folder.

  5. Click Save to create the linked report in the specified location.
